Abstract:

The dedicated education unit (DEU) is an important academic-practice model used around the world to provide rich, immersive clinical practice training to nursing students.  Nursing schools rely on DEUs to mitigate nursing education shortages of clinical faculty and clinical space by relying on front-line staff nurses to teach students.  Student nurses may spend a lot of time under the supervision of nurse preceptors.  However, nurse preceptors have varying backgrounds of teaching experience and often cite insufficient preparation as a common reason for difficulties transitioning from the role of clinician to educator with up to 67% of nurse preceptors in hospital facilities citing no formal preparation for the role.  Thus, a structured preceptor training program for nurse preceptors was developed to increase nurse preceptor competence in clinical teaching, and increase nursing students’ perception of the educational quality.  Nurse preceptors received role responsibilities and online educational modules with practical teaching tips and scenarios.  Nurse preceptors and students each received surveys before and after the training and the post-intervention results were compared to pre-intervention results to assess whether there was a change in teaching competence and quality of teaching and learning.  After the training, nurses felt more competent when teaching students in the clinical setting.  Likewise, students were satisfied with the quality of teaching.  Results were comparable to earlier studies; however, nurse preceptors with more than two years of preceptor experience reported a higher level of teaching competence initially than those with less than two years of experience.

Abstract:

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic health condition affecting over 18 million people worldwide and has been found to disproportionably affect members of the communities.  It is a progressive disease that can lead to debilitating complications and premature death if not effectively controlled. South Africa like any Sub-Saharan countries and the world at large is no exception, the prevalence of diabetes among South African adults from 30 years and above has increased by 50% between 2009 to date and an increase is expected by some 11 million new diabetes diagnoses by the year 2020.  Diabetes is an increased health problem in South Africa with few resources available for diabetes care and yet is a lifelong disease. The purpose of this study was to describe the beliefs and management practices of patients with diabetes mellitus in Vhembe district, Limpopo province. The study was conducted at Vhembe district clinics. A probability, purposive sampling was used to sample 100 diabetic patients. Data was collected over a 5 months’ period, using a pre-tested structured questionnaire. Data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 19.0. Descriptive statistics, frequencies and percentages were used to summarize the data from the study. Results of this study revealed that the majority of the respondents had poor management practice of feet care and annual eye examination. A substantial number of the respondents believed that diabetes mellitus can be cured. Majority did not believe that diet helps in the management of diabetes mellitus.

The majority of diabetic patients still hold beliefs about diabetes mellitus (DM) such as, DM is curable.  This could have a negative effect where patients can quit taking treatment once the disease is under control. This happens irrespective of the National guidelines for the management of DM. Therefore, some strategies should be sought that could enhance the implementation of the guidelines thereby reducing the complications of the disease.

The objectives of  the study were:To assess and compare the knowledge among married women regarding the use of contraceptive methods in selected urban and rural community, to  assess and compare the practices among  married women, to  assess and compare the attitude  among married women,to associate knowledge  with selected demographic variables, to associate attitude  with selected demographic variables, to relate knowledge with attitudeQuantitative research approach was used with descriptive comparative design. Tool used in the study were structured knowledge interview schedule , structured practices  interview schedule and attitude scale. Tool was divided in 4 section part A consist of sociodemographic variable, Part B structured knowledge interview schedule consisted of 25 items. Part C was structured practice interview schedule and Part D was attitude scale consisted of 20 statement, out of which 10 were positive and 10 were  negative statement. Study was conducted in two settings i.e Urban and rural community. Total of 100 sample were selected 50 from urban and 50 from  rural community through purposive sampling technique. The data was analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. The result showed that 78% of married women in urban had good knowledge whereas 48% of married women in rural had average knowledge on Contraceptive methods. In terms of practices, condoms were the most preferred Contraceptive methods among urban(28%) and rural(26%) women .In terms of Attitude,90% of urban women had favorable attitude whereas 70% of rural women had favorable attitude towards contraceptive methods. Her model in this article is based Theory of planned behavior of Azjen has become one of the most widely used psychological theories to explain and predict human behavior that creates new pathways for improving healthcare. She has built this model after years of experience in research, evaluation, teaching and administration both in education institutions and worked in health centers as student’s educator. The foundation is based on The theory of planned behavior illuminated the process of human action by linking it to three variables namely the Attitude towards behavior (ATT), Subjective Norms (SN) and the Perceived behavioral control (PBC) (.Matthew et al.,2007).  Which is a theory that utilizes is exactly the type of behavior where intentions are necessary, useful for understanding and anticipating future development.  This theory precede the formation of intention as a predictor of behavior. This approach (FCC) to health professional and patient in different setting and wards of focusing.

Aims: This research investigates the relationship between the subjective norms and its impact on family-centered care intention among pediatric nurses in Iran.

Material& Methods: A qusi –experimental study design was used on a sample of 200 pediatric nurses in two groups in pediatric nurses. Respondents were selected based on simple random sampling.

Results: The result of Pearson Correlation showed that this variable was significantly correlated with intention (Pre-test= 0.497**), (post-test= 0.697**) & (follow–up test= 0.635**).

Conclusion: The results say that, there is significant relationship between the subjective norms and to implementation family-centered care intention among the nurses in Iran.

Abstract:

FCC is a new phenomenon or innovative approach to planning and evaluation is based on mutually understand and beneficial partnership among health care professionals, patients and families. The hospitals in developed countries are well resourced, while many in developing countries, such as Iran, function with limited resources. The purpose of this study, which was based on Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior (TPB), was to determine the extent to which pediatric nurses’ attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived control influence nurses’ intention to family-centered care for children patients. An experimental study based on the adapted and modified model from Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior was utilized. Proportionate simple randomized sampling was used to select 200 pediatric nurses at 4 hospitals  (3 hospital as intervention, and 1 hospital as control groups) completed a questionnaire assessing their attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavior control, and intention , to provide family-centered care to pediatric wards.

Attitude, perceived behavior control, and subjective norm significantly influences nurses’ intention to practice family-centered care behavior respectively after intervention [ (β=0.39,t=5.914 p<0.01), (β=0.320, t=4.815, p<0.01), (β=0.172, t=2.184, p<0.01)].
